Retrofitting an oil cooler to the JD GZ250

Summer: Motorcycle’s Worst Enemy

Scorching temperatures plague both water-cooled and air-cooled engines:

Water-cooled systems:fail via radiator/hose leaks or pump issues, leaving riders stranded.

Air-cooled units:suffer oil breakdown → carbon buildup → lubrication loss → piston seizure.

Natural air-cooling triumphs through simplicity. To ensure reliability:

✅ Select JASO MA2-rated 20W-50 oil

✅ Install NGK DR8EIX iridium plugs

✅ Avoid lugging (low-gear/high-throttle)

✅ Eliminate partial clutch engagement

My heat mitigation mod:

1. Installed Qingqi Bigfoot Oil Cooler($35) – identical to JEDI’s OEM unit

2. Post-install oil top-up to sight glass midpoint

3. Forcibly adjusted hoses to fit misaligned ports

4. Added 25,000 RPM auxiliary fan (post-cooler)

Critical notes during install:

⚠️ Avoid damaging cooler fins

⚠️ Verify hose clamp torque (12 N·m)

Result: 20°C temperature drop at sustained 120km/h.
